It's going to be a hot one today!
Local schools in the Greater Danbury area are all closing early today due to the heat wave.
Here in New Fairfield, our schools are closing early, too. No afternoon pre-school or kindergarten classes.
In my house, we're calling it a "snow" day.
Maybe we'll all take the afternoon off and raid the aunt's pool...

Wish our schools would do something like that here. Its gets smoking hot. But schools are already done for the year here.
Remembering the "good old days" of growing up in the Central Valley of California, the teachers actually gave us an extra piece of paper and we made hand held fans during those hot dog days of summer. I'm glad now the kids get a "snow day". :)
DON - It's good to see that some districts have the sense to realize that this is probably worse than a snow day. My son is actually supposed to have field day today (outside baking in the sun). If they don't cancel it, I plan on picking him up and taking him out. There is no reason to be running around outside in 97 degree weather, with very high humidity.
DF,
You can enjoy Candlewood Lake.
That would be my place of choice today.
Good old Danbury. My old hangout....
Hi Don ... I like the idea of calling it a "snow day." I will keep it in mind, and maybe I will feel a bit cooler :)
Good morning Dana - Schools closed cause it it too hot? Wow that is divverent rom here in Florida. We just deal with the heat.
Jeannette - we have two more weeks of school. We would have been done this week, but we have "real" snow days that we need to make up - they get added on to the end of the year.
Gail - I remember those paper fans! I tell my kids we were tougher back then. My kids have no idea what it means to live without air conditioning!
Adam - All the field days up here have been cancelled. They will be rescheduled. They cancelled all after school activities, too.
Scott - Yes, Candlewood Lake is a favorite up here. But, today, it's too hot to enjoy the boat. I vote for the pool...
Marie - we were joking yesterday that we need a "snow" day for the heat. I never thought they would actually give it to us!
Solaris - Who is Dana? Our schools do not have air conditioning. It gets stifling hot in the classrooms on normal hot days. While I've never heard of an early dismissal for heat, it does make sense.
Don, it's brutal here in NJ. The cars even too hot to go to the beach!!
Laura - Yep, it's brutal today. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit worse - they've already announced that schools will close early again tomorrow, too.
