Even Spell-Check Wouldn't Have Helped

I was reviewing some listings for a client earlier today.  Agents really need to proofread what they enter into their listings:

"Updates include Furn."  They updated the furniture?  Does the furniture stay?  OK...OK...I know they meant furnace, but it took me a bit to figure this one out. 

"Walking closet."  Will it keep walking away from me while I'm trying to hang up my clothes?  Gee, putting away the laundry could be tiring.


Just reinforces the need to proofread...

Your right Don, we should always proof read. We realtors are so busy that sometimes we get rushed to get the job done quickly and just don't think. Its not that we are dumb, we are just very busy. I always try to go back and proof read. I don't usually make mistakes, but once in a while I do, and usually those are the times I didn't get a chance to go back and proof read. Thank you for the reminder!

 You hit on my pet peeve

The poor grammer, mis-spellings wrong words, like the "walking closet" all reflect badly on the listing agent but the bigger deal is:  it reflects badly on me.. I send this stuff out to my buyers.

Mary - we all make mistakes.  That's not a problem.  The trick is to catch them and correct them.  In my opinion, that's denotes a professional.

This listing I referenced above has been on the market for 140 days.  Plenty of time to back and check what they wrote!

Ron - What's wrong with the picture?  Could it maybe be that there is NO HOUSE in the highlighted lot?  :)

Though, I'm guessing this is new construction - it always bugs me when homes are under construction and the photos aren't updated during the construction process.  The home will have been completed 6 months ago, yet the picture on the MLS is still a bunch of trucks pouring the foundation.  No pics of that sparkling new granite kitchen or the new baths...

How about this one

Looking at keeping your costs down by finishing your own home. Home is dryed in and ready to be finished. All permits and inspections are up to date including the septic permit. City water is available. No mechanic liens of mortgages against property. This could be a easy Finnish.

My problem is that I dont have any buyers from Finland.

Hi Ron - I'm sure "easy Finnish" would be a violation of Fair Housing laws, among other things!

Very funny post. But some comments are even funnier, especially in this topic.

 

Why some would say "Your right" instead of "You're or You are right"? LOL

OR

"Grammer" instead of Grammar?? Yes, it reflects bad on him...

 The excuse is "we get rushed"? Is that what they say about road rage, and shopping carts rage??

 Too sad.

Just a Reader:  We all make mistakes.  We all make typos.  The comments on this post are not marketing pieces.  There is a bit of leniency that can be given to comments on a blog post.  But marketing pieces and MLS listings, while mistakes happen (and I'm sure we've all made them), need to be proof read and spell-checked.  And, unfortunately, spell check can only find spelling errors - not grammar errors or the incorrect use of a word (your vs. you're).
